We help animals in need since 1947
75. Years Tierschutzverein Zug
As an independent association, we pursue regional comprehensive animal protection, are an information and advice center and are committed to the welfare of animals and humans.
The Tierschutzverein Zug (Animal Protection Society Zug) was founded on December 3, 1947. The founder and first president of our association was Gerold Schnyder. He led our organization for 28 years and after his resignation in 1975, he was elected Honorary President. He died at the age of 82 on October 18,1984.
Since 1975, the association has been led by ten presidents: Rudolph Kleiner (1975–83), Fritz Glarner (1983–85), Alfred Burgi (1985–87), Albert Fröhli (1987–94), Beat Geiser (1994–95), Rita Meier (1995–96), Kurt Diethelm (1996–2000), Benedikt Strickler (2000–13), Robert Gottschalk (2013–19) and Stefan Werner (2019-today).
Since September 2010, the Cantonal Department of Urban and Traffic Planning has authorised the Tierschutzverein Zug (TSV Zug) to care for hedgehogs for medical purposes. The TSV Zug maintains a close relationship with the Swiss Animal Protection (SAP), other animal welfare groups in the region, Zug veterinarians, police, cantonal and municipal authorities. The TSV Zug is licensed to train apprentices and is a member of the Schweizerischer Verband für die Berufsbildung in Tierpflege (SVBT).
Gerold Schnyder would certainly be satisfied and proud if he could see his Tierschutzverein Zug today. We have our own animal shelter, professional caretakers and a in-house veterinarian; we train apprentices and were the first official reporting station for stray animals in Canton Zug from 2004 to 2018.
Over 75 years of animal protection in Canton Zug has only been possible thanks to animal lovers who consider our work to be meaningful and worthy of support. We have the competence and experience – you have the means. Together we can help wherever it is necessary.
Duties and philosophy
